10 Things I Learned Through Gaming

People don’t always realize it, but games have a lot of life lessons to teach. Yes, you can’t run around using any weapon you want. If you total a car, it wont reappear in a few seconds (although it would be cool). But there are some great lessons that can be learned from video games.

10) If you don't like how the level is going, start over.

Sometimes it’s better if you restart the level. This way you can find what you missed. After all it’s like the saying goes: “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.”

9) You have to acquire your abilities.

Life isn’t something you can easily walk through. Not everything is handed to you. You have to earn it. People don’t automatically know how to do things or get whatever they want. It takes practice, hard work, and determination. So work hard, and who knows what you can accomplish.

8) Never book a holiday to Silent Hill or Raccoon City.

Silent Hill and Raccoon City are two of many destinations to never book a vacation. So remember to do some research. That way you know what kind of things you’re in for.

7) A single good guy can defeat an infinite amount of bad guys.

I know this sounds crazy, but it’s true. Believe in yourself. That’s all it takes. It’s mind over matter. If you believe in yourself great things can happen.

6) All decisions have consequences.

Fable. Fallout 3. They are just a couple of games that show how your actions have consequences. Maybe it changes the perception people have of you, or maybe your overall path for the game. It’s up to you, and it always has been. So whether the consequences are good or bad, the choices make you who you are.

5) You get more achievements for keeping up with the small details.

Many games have hidden objectives. For example, in Tomb Raider you get achievements for finding artifacts. In Halo 3, you get achievements for finding the skulls. All it takes is a little extra effort. So put forth the extra effort and you may achieve more than you think you could.

4) Cover your exits, and don’t forget to secure a way out.

Gamers learn that you can’t always face an enemy head on. Sometimes you have to retreat and get them to come to you. Lure them so to speak. It’s also a great lesson. Always have a backup plan.

3) Look both ways before you go.

Every gamer knows you have to check your surroundings before you proceed, otherwise who knows what kind of deadly ordeals lie around the corner.

2) Always take the headshot.

Every gamer knows the quickest way to get a kill is a headshot. It gives the most points, and is a skill most gamers love to possess. However, it also proves a great point. Don’t beat around the bush just get straight to the point. If you have something to say, say it. Don’t dwell on things. As Nike says “Just Do It!”

1) If aliens attack, most of the population is screwed.

Think about it. Gears of War and Halo are just a couple of many games that depict alien invasions. So when the time comes and aliens attack, for most of us it’s Game Over. However, we also know the strong will survive and move on to kick some aliens’ ass. Visit the author's blog.
