7 Reasons Why Procrastination is Good for You

Stop! Don’t start that project too early. Why do now what you can do later – or not at all? Procrastination has gotten a bad rap, but the truth is, it can be the answer to some of life’s most complex problems. Read on and find out why procrastination isn’t so bad after all.
1) Reduce Stress
Have a deadline looming in a week or so? Why worry about it now and cause yourself unnecessary stress? Instead of working on it all week, roll up that stress and put it in your pocket. You’re going to worry about it the night before anyway, so wait until then to tackle the project. Look at that – you reduced seven days of stress down to one night.
2) Increase Confidence
Living on the edge will make you feel like a badass. People will be impressed with your “devil-may-care” attitude and wish they were more like you. And isn’t that really what we all want?
3) Improve Your Health
Everyone knows that sleep is good for you. Having a decent, stress-free sleep will not only make you feel energized, but it can reduce the risk of developing certain diseases and prolong your life. Will studying for a test or cleaning your room actually save your life? Unlikely. Make the healthy choice – take a nap instead.
4) Save the World
Somewhere out there there’s an answer to world peace, but you’re not going to find it if you’re busy weeding the garden or doing your taxes. Put those tasks off and go do something worthwhile. So what if the garden looks like crap – if you discover the cure for cancer, does it really matter?
5) Give Yourself the Gift of Time
Ever hear people complain that there aren’t enough hours in the day? Pity those people for not knowing how to prioritize. By procrastinating you can actually give yourself more time to enjoy life. Nobody lies on their deathbed wishing that the windows were spotless or the garage was cleaner.
6) Get More Enjoyment Out of Life
Life is short – do the fun stuff now. Worrying about deadlines only wastes time. Instead of doing all those things you’re “supposed to be doing” go out and have fun while you’re young. As you get older your body is going to give out and you won’t be able to do fun things like cliff diving and bungee jumping. Cleaning the bathroom can wait until you’re old, base jumping can’t. Do your body a favor – abuse it now.
7) Stop People From Expecting Too Much
Co-workers, family, friends – they all expect so much from us, and we hate to disappoint them. Wouldn’t it be better if they just stopped asking? Procrastination might just be the answer. If people get impatient and frustrated enough, they’ll probably stop relying on you. Problem solved.
For all of these reasons and more, we can see that procrastination doesn’t have to be a bad thing. From improving our health and reducing stress, to saving the whole freaking world, procrastination is the smart man’s answer to many of life’s problems. So next time someone tells you not to put off ’till tomorrow what can be done today, tell them to screw off.
