If you're from the past or have lived most of your life in a bunker, you might not know that Facebook is now a popular gaming platform. Most of the games are a bit lame and made for at-home moms and old people, but is there really anything addicting about them? We drafted this scientific report to find out.

Mafia Wars

What is it: Mobster application that allows users to gain power while working up the mob's chain of command. You can steal, fill body bags, and earn power and money at the same time. Mafia Wars' goal is to gain power, build your own mafia (by adding Facebook friends) and take over the city. Users can also buy really expensive property, cars, and weapons.

What my grandmother likes about it: Gives you the opportunity to pretend to be Michael Corleone.

What my grandmother hates about it: You need a lot of friends in order for you to build your mafia and gain experience points, power and money. Without friends, you have no mafia!

Farmville

What is it: A virtual farm game where Facebook users can gain coins and dollars to buy supplies, decorations, trees and seeds. Seeds can be planted and vegetables grow for future harvesting. Animals are bought or given to the user's farm by a Farmville neighbor. Animals can be sold for coins, or used for their own individual use (cow can be milked, pigs find truffles).

What my grandmother likes about it: Its an easy enough game, a kid could do it. Farmville has some neat vegetables, trees (limes, dates, pomegranates) and animals.

What my grandmother hates about it: Can't buy certain seeds until you reach certain levels. Also, your crops die if you don't check your field often. Again, time consuming when harvesting, plowing, and seeding every night!

YoVille

What is it: It's a virtual world game. Users can set up their apartments with sofa, plants, and other decorative appliances. They can send friends invites and gifts. One can play mini games, visits friends' apartments, and even head to local stores and buy clothes.

What my grandmother likes about it: Allows users to get a glimpse of what a virtual game consists of. One can meet other YoVillers, dance, work, shop, and party with one another.

What my grandmother hates about it: It's slow at times. If you want a faster virtual world game, stick to SIMS.

Celebrity Agent

What is it: Facebook application that allows users to collect up to 6 celebrities. When they make headlines, you make money.

What my grandmother likes about it: You get the latest celebrity updates without even turning the television on as Celebrity Agent is linked with TheInsider.com One can lock (for a price) a celebrity so friends cannot steal them. Also, the more popular your celebrity is, the more money you receive.

What my grandmother hates about it: Just when you are about to receive a badge, someone steals a celebrity from you. You can try to steal it back, but usually, your friend will have it locked.

Hatchlings

What is it: Its an Easter Egg hunt for adults (i guess...) while on the computer. You search around Facebook for eggs and click on eggs once you find them.

What my grandmother likes about it: You have the opportunity to meet other hatchling friends who you can trade with. Each egg has it own appearance. From a solid color to funky eggs that are decorated with pictures such as a smiley face and a cheeseburger. Then the eggs hatch into thingies.

What my grandmother hates about it: You look for eggs...on Facebook...

Pirates

What is it: A swashbucklin' pirate game where one searches for treasures. Other pirates (fellow Facebook chaps) steal treasures away and may make you walk the plank.

What my grandmother likes about it: You can leave booby traps and throw dynamite at your friends. Makes grandma feel like she's got Jack Sparrow on her team! Grandma has dreams too you know!

What my grandmother hates about it: It's slow at times and occasionally glitchy.

Zombies

What is it: A cultivating application where users use Zombies to bite other Facebook friends. Gather up enough points to create an army of Zombies.

What my grandmother likes about it: Why not go around biting other people for the heck of it? Other than to be irritating.

What my grandmother hates about it: There is nothing much to it except getting points for biting people.

Texas Hold'em Poker

What is it: Typical online poker game, except its on Facebook and you can play with or against friends.

What my grandmother likes about it: Vegas here we come! Fun and addicting game. The money may run out, but it's Facebook...so you can just hit refresh. You get free poker chips every time you sign in to the game.

What my grandmother hates about it: Graphics not as good as other online card games. Game freezes more than the average online game.

Pet Society

What is it: Virtual pet game where users decorate their homes, play games against other pets, and/or visit friends. There's even a Pet Stadium where you and fellow pets can compete in physical games such as treasure hunts and rope jumping.

What my grandmother likes about it: It's easy, simple and cute. Who doesn't like to dress up their pets and make them look for treasures around the town? Ok, maybe that's a bad question. Its a great game to introduce to your little one in the family. Or maybe your grandmother.

What my grandmother hates about it: If you don't take good care of your animal...you don't do well in pet society. It becomes an online version of Giga-Pets from the late 1990's.

Restaurant City

What is it: Facebook application that allows users to start up their own restaurant. One can ask friends to join their wait staff and earn points in the process. Users can build up their restaurant while serving up a decent menu.

What my grandmother likes about it: Allows users to create their own dishes and menus. Users can decorate their own restaurant by adding furniture, plants and other decorations. Feel like both Gordan Ramsey and Iron Chef!

What my grandmother hates about it: The overflowing toilets can get irritating. It can get boring without many friends to join. What's a restaurant game with no staff or patrons?
